Where Pckgr is the better fit
Pckgr has been shipping for years and its product surface reaches well beyond core packaging. If you want that breadth in one place today, it is the more complete option.
- A wider feature surface. Pckgr ships a Security Dashboard with Microsoft Defender vulnerability data, a Policy Manager with drift detection, application rollbacks with version history, staged roll-out, and its own RMM. A lean newcomer will not match that breadth on day one.
- macOS deployment. Pckgr packages and deploys macOS apps as well. Packer publishes to Intune for third-party app packaging and does not deploy to Mac.
- A private repository as a reliability play. By hosting every package itself, Pckgr removes broken external package URLs as a failure point. That is a real trade-off against winget freshness, and some teams prefer it.
